The leader of National Security Party arrested for false accusations
YEREVAN, Dec. 22. /ARKA/. Garnik Isagulyan, the leader of the National Security Party and former advisor to Armenia's second president Robert Kocharyan, detained on Tuesday, has been arrested for false accusations, the Investigative Committee said today.
According to the Investigative Committee, speaking at a press conference on September 20, 2021, Isagulyan, ‘who realized that he was providing false information’, alleged a crime which had not been committed.
Particularly, Isagulyan accused Armenia’s Ambassador to Ukraine of being recruited by Turkish and Azerbaijani special services and cooperating with them since 2008.
According to the Investigative Committee, Isagulyan groundlessly accused the Armenian diplomat of committing a particularly grave crime.
At present, the Armenian Ambassador to Ukraine is Vladimir Karapetyan, who was appointed to the post after quitting as press secretary of Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan.
The Investigative Committee said also that Garnik Isagulyan is already accused of making false accusations against the Prime Minister, former and current officials, public figures, the Head of the Investigative Committee, ex-Secretary of the Security Council of Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as of calling to commit violence against the head of the government.
A person suspected or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty according to a court ruling, which has entered into legal force, according to the procedure prescribed by the Armenian Criminal Procedure Code. -0-
