YEREVAN, September 11. /ARКА/. The topic of the withdrawal of the Russian military base is not presently under discussion in Armenia, stated RA National Assembly Chairman Alen Simonyan.
"We have not engaged in such discussions, and I cannot provide any new information on this matter," Simonyan remarked during a briefing.
The 102nd Russian military base is situated in the city of Gyumri, located in Armenia's Shirak region, and is currently operational as part of the CIS Joint Air Defense System. This base falls under the command of the Russian Troops Group in the Transcaucasus, which is part of the North Caucasus Military District of the Russian Federation. It is equipped with the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system and MiG-29 fighter jets. In 2010, the operational term of the base, as stipulated by a bilateral interstate agreement from 1995, was extended until 2044.-0-
