YEREVAN, April 1. /ARKA/. The Armenian Court of Appeals postponed the decision on the preventive measure for Tashir Group president and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan, reserving it for the upcoming court hearing, his lawyer, Aram Vardevanyan, announced on Facebook.
"We filed an appeal against the house arrest decision on March 18, and on March 31, we received the Court of Appeals' decision. Despite the completion of the preliminary investigation, the court did not lift the house arrest, although there were grounds for doing so," Vardevanyan wrote on Facebook.
Vardevanyan also reported that the Court of Appeals had not ruled on whether to allow Karapetyan to make video statements. However, he added, the court accepted some of the defense's arguments.
The lawyer called the incident political persecution and claimed a violation of Articles 5 and 18 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
