Tashir Group President Samvel Karapetyan to Remain in Custody
YEREVAN, September 8. /ARКА/. Armenia's Anti-Corruption Court of Appeal has rejected the lawyers' motion to lift the extension of the arrest of businessman, philanthropist and Tashir Group President Samvel Karapetyan, local media reported, citing his lawyer Aram Vardevanyan.
To verify this information, Novosti-Armenia news agency sent a request to the press service of the Investigative Committee, which is in charge of the criminal case.
Samvel Karapetyan was detained in Armenia on June 18 for two months on charges of publicly promoting the seizure of power. This followed a meeting with Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, during which Karapetyan expressed his long-standing support for the Armenian Church and the Armenian people, stating that if politicians fail, “we are ready to deal with this issue in our own way.”
On August 15, his detention was extended for another two months. Karapetyan denies the charges against him.-0-
