Sanctions against Russia and Iran limit Armenia's economic potential - FIS report
YEREVAN, January 23. /ARKA/. The Foreign Intelligence Service of Armenia considers it unlikely that sanctions against both Russia and Iran will be lifted or eased in 2025, which could potentially have a significant impact on Armenia's economy.
"Therefore, the risks associated with secondary sanctions will remain relevant for Armenia in 2025," the FIS’s annual report states.
It is noted that the sanctions imposed on some of Armenia's trading partners, particularly Russia and Iran, limit the existing economic potential due to the possibility of secondary sanctions.
"On the other hand, the combination of the ongoing sanctions against Russia, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and other significant factors increases the likelihood of a slowdown in economic growth in Russia, creating additional risks for Armenia's economy," the intelligence service reports.
At the same time, it is pointed out that in 2025, the indirect impact of economic sanctions will continue to create risks for Armenia, particularly in terms of technological development and access to technology.
"This pertains to both locally developed technologies and the ability to import technologies. Barriers to accessing technological tools, equipment, and software limit not only the business environment but also the development of innovations," the FIS report concludes.
