Russia to support efforts to settle Karabakh conflict
YEREVAN, May 20. /ARKA/. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Friday as met with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in Yerevan that Russia will always help in settlement of Karabakh conflict.

He stressed the importance of maintenance of the state of truce that has been reached.

«In this contest, we welcome your meeting with Azerbaijan’s president in Vienna as well as the efforts made in the frame of the Minsk Group to maintain dialogue, to continue communication and to prevent such incidents in the future, I mean compliance with the agreements historically reached in 1994 and 1995 and of course, movement to a firmer peace in the region and achievement of the final settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,» Medvedev said.

The Russian premier also added that his previous visit came amid a quite complicated situation.

«I want to say that we in Russia were keeping our eyes on developments and were doing whatever we can to resolve the situation,» he said.

Medvedev also said that he was happy to meet Sargsyan again and stressed that this second meeting within one month shows the level of relations between Armenia and Russia and the ally nature of the ties between the two countries.

Sargsyan, on his side, said that more vulnerable issues have been discussed at the previous meeting.
«I think we will continue the conversation today, since it was a complicated period then for our region, which was caused by a gross breach of the 1994 and 1995 agreements by Azerbaijan,» he said.

He said that conducting of constant monitoring and introduction of border incident investigation mechanisms were arranged at the meeting.

«Of course, we, on our side, will do everything to prevent such breaches and will hope that the foreign ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries will be consistent in implementing the decisions we have made together,» he said.

Medvedev is now in Armenia for a regular session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.

He said that a wide range of issues, first of all economic, will be discussed today at the session. He also expressed hope that some arrangements will be made to spur economies.

Noting that this is the first Eurasian Economic Union prime-ministerial in Armenia, he thanked the Armenian leadership for hosting it. --0----
