YEREVAN, December 5. /ARKA/. The ruling Republican Party of Armenia’s (HAK) strategy designed for next April parliamentary elections consists of three components, the director of the Yerevan-based Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan said today.
Speaking at a news conference Iskandaryan said the first component is re-branding of the party by incorporating new faces. Second- it will cut a deal with some opposition parties allowing them to win several seats in the parliament and third- it will create spoilers to deflect a certain number of votes.
‘I think this strategy will be successful, "- said Iskandaryan.
Iskandaryan said the re-branding of the party by incorporating prime minister Karen Karapetyan, as well as ministers of defense, agriculture, transport, communications and IT, inspired hope in Armenian citizens, However, ‘although the re-branding has already borne some fruit, in the long term its effects can be disappointing.’
"The Armenian society is waiting for a miracle with good guys coming to make things better in an overnight. The fact is that resolution of any problem in Armenia requires decades-long hard work. There will be ups and downs in the implementation of the reforms." - Iskandaryan said.
He argued that the point is not Karen Karapetyan’s personality, but the objective reality. "If the prime minister of Armenia was Confucius, the things would be the same, - he said. -0-
