YEREVAN, September 20. /ARKA/. Russian President Vladimir Putin expects that the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh will be resolved peacefully.

At a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi today, he said more than 2,000 civilians, including more than a thousand children, were evacuated to the main base point of Russian peacekeepers, deployed in the region, Tass news agency reported.

"We are in very close contact with all parties to the conflict and the authorities in Yerevan, in Stepanakert and in Baku. I hope that we will be able to achieve de-escalation and shift the solution of this problem into a peaceful direction," the Russian president emphasized.

"Our peacekeepers are very actively working with all parties involved in this conflict. They are doing everything to protect the peaceful population," he emphasized.

On Tuesday Azerbaijan launched "counter-terrorism" activities in Nagorno-Karabakh ‘to restore constitutional order.’ A cease-fire agreement announced today was to go into effect at 1 p.m. local time Sept. 20.

Also, talks between Azerbaijani officials and the ethnic Armenian authorities on Karabakh’s “re-integration” into Azerbaijan were scheduled to take place on Thursday in the Azerbaijani town of Yevlakh.

Ruben Vardanyan, a former top official in Nagorno-Karabakh, said on Wednesday that close to 100 people had been killed and hundreds more injured after Azerbaijan started the hostilities.-0-
