YEREVAN, June 26. /ARKA/. In a Facebook live stream on June 25 late evening Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan refuted Azerbaijani media allegations that Azeri troops seized strategic heights in the Nakhichevan exclave.

"Azerbaijani troops did not capture any heights, and nothing has changed in terms of control over the territories. There have been some changes concerning their positions,"  Pashinyan said.

Azerbaijan’s defense ministry claimed earlier that they occupied strategic heights in Nakhichevan on the border with Armenia, as well as positions on the Armenian side of the border. As evidence they showed photos of Azerbaijanis kissing the graves of their ancestors on the ruins of the village of Gyunnut, which is the Armenian territory.

The Azerbaijani defense ministry also claimed that they took control of about 11,000 hectares, which would allow them to build another 50 km of engineering structures on the border with Armenia.

However, a spokesman for Armenian armed forces  Artsrun Hovhannisyan refuted Azeri claims saying that Armenian armed forces allowed a group of Azerbaijanis, former residents of the village,  to visit the cemetery of the village. He said the permission was given because Armenia remains committed to humanitarian norms and reducing tensions.

The Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan is a historic Armenian territory, now an exclave of Azerbaijan. -0-
