Pashinyan: Armenia acquired 'unprecedented' amount of weapons
YEREVAN, December 13. /ARKA/. Over the past year and a half, an 'unprecedented' amount of weapons have  been acquired for the Armenian armed forces, Armenian Prime Minister  Nikol Pashinyan said today during a discussion on military budget for 2020, adding that Armenia needs these weapons for peace, not for war.

“Security is a multicomponent factor. It has both economic, political, psychological, and diplomatic components. Our  armed forces are the number one defender of Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). And in this regard, I consider it important that over the past year and a half huge changes have been made  in the army despite a number of political speculations," he said.

According to the prime minister, the 'unprecedented' acquisition of weapons is dictated by the aggressive actions of some regional countries.

"Armenia should respond to their behavior with a restraining policy. And we are pursuing such a policy in the field of defense and in the build-up in the armed forces and the acquisition of weapons is only part of that policy," he said.

Pashinyan emphasized the importance of what has been done to improve the conditions in the armed forces, and to increase social guarantees of the military.

“We will continue the work in this direction. Of course, in this context there are many discussions, publications, and criticisms. I would divide them into two parts. First, any reform process always causes some discomfort and even opposition, which is natural.  The second part is that we must be careful about criticism so that the reforms and changes that we carry out, in terms of content, quality and results are 100% consistent with our intentions, desires and ultimate goals," Pashinyan concluded. –0-
