Pashinyan appoints new deputy ministers
YEREVAN, June 4. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a number of decrees today on the appointment of new deputy ministers in five ministries.
Artak Kamalyan and Avag Avanesyan were appointed as deputy ministers of economy. The first served previously as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and the second as Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments.
Gegham Vardanyan was appointed as Deputy Minister of the High-Tech Industry. Previously he served as Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technologies. Irina Ghaplanyan was appointed as Deputy Minister of the Environment. She previously served as first Deputy Minister of Nature Protection.
Arevik Anapiosyan, who served previously as Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan (now an MP) and Araik Khzmalyan (Executive Director of the Tourism Development Fund) were appointed as deputy ministers of education, science, culture and sports.
Lilia Shushanyan (previously served as Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Development), Bagrat Badalyan (formerly Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technologies), Hakob Vardanyan (formerly Deputy Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources) were appointed as deputy ministers of territorial administration and infrastructures.
Under a law, approved on May 8 by Armenia’s National Assembly in the second and final reading the number of ministries has been reduced from 17 to 12. The position of first deputy prime minister was also eliminated. There are now two deputy prime ministers.
As a result of the optimization, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs are merged with the Ministry of Science and Education. It is now called the Ministry of Science, Education, Culture and Sports.
Also, the ministries of agriculture and economic development and investment are merged into the Ministry of Economy. The Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development are merged into a new Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure. It will also handle transport, as well as road infrastructure issues.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is reorganized into the Ministry of High-Tech Industry. The Ministry of Diaspora is replaced with the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs. -0-
