Hundreds of opposition activists have blocked the Haghtanak Bridge in downtown Yerevan after blocking several roads in Armenia's capital, Yerevan, in protest against plans to elect former president Serzh Sargsyan as prime minister.

Nikol Pashinyan, the head of Yelk parliamentary opposition faction, called on his supporters to refrain from violence and respect the police officers.
Armenian police said in a statement earlier today that the actions of the activists are illegal, restricting the rights of the citizens to freedom of movement.
The ruling Republican Party of Armenia on Saturday officially nominated the party chairman, former president Serzh Sargsyan, as its candidate for the office of prime minister.
The round-the-clock protests began on the evening of April 13. The public transport in the city center has been actually paralyzed -0-
