No border tension in Gegharkunik province- governor

YEREVAN, May 13. /ARKA/. Armenia's state border with Azerbaijan in Gegharkunik province was not infringed and there is no tension, the governor of the province Gnel Sanosyan said today at a press briefing.

On Wednesday, when it emerged that Azerbaijani troops crossed the border into Armenia and advanced 3.5 km towards the Armenian village of Verishen in Syunik province, rumors began spreading that the Azerbaijanis had advanced also about 3 kilometers in the direction of Verin Shorzha village of the Vardenis region of the province.

“Now when the weather conditions have improved, the Azerbaijani troops are being re-deployed, while our armed forces are watching this process. The terrain there is very complex and it is not easy to determine the border line so that do not allow them to move forward from their places of deployment, ” Sanosyan explained.

He said: “The border line passed along a slope only in two places. Our troops argued that they should withdraw. This problem was fixed as well. "

To a clarifying question, who now controls these disputed territories, Sanosyan replied: "Both they and we have settled along the border line."

According to him, "there is absolutely no tension on the border." “Yesterday I was in Verin Shorzha for several hours. Our armed forces are present, working there and there are maps to be guided with. This is the same process that took place in November-December last year, but in some areas it was not completed due to the difficult terrain, ”said the governor. -0-
