YEREVAN, May 21. /ARKA/. Members of the new Armenian government, headed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, were sworn in today as Cabinet ministers. It was the first such ceremony in the history of Armenia. The ceremony took place at the residence of President Armen Sarkissian.

"In the name of realizing the national goals and strengthening the Motherland, I swear to fulfill in good faith the duties that are in front of the people, to defend the Constitution and laws, to promote the sovereignty of Armenia and to protect its interests, to be faithful to the high rank of a member of the government," says the oath.

Under a package of constitutional reforms, endorsed in a national referendum in 2015, Armenia changed the governance system of the country from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary republic in 2018 April.

Nikol Pashinyan was elected prime minister by the National Assembly on May 8 by a vote of 59 to 42. Previous prime minister Serzh Sargsyan stepped down on April 23 under the pressure of mass protests against his premiership. -0-
