YEREVAN, February 22. /ARKA/. A batch of French weapons will be delivered to Armenia today, French newspaper Le Figaro reported, saying also that negotiations on the delivery were concluded back in October 2023,

"In October 2023, France and Armenia signed a protocol of intentions in the field of air defense, which includes a contract for the delivery of three Ground Master (GM200) radars of Thalès company to Armenia. These radars allow to detect enemy aircraft at a distance of 250 km, the newspaper recalls.

The protocol also includes a contract for the purchase of night vision systems. These include binoculars, equipment manufactured by Safran, which will be delivered on Thursday.

"France and Armenia have historically had friendly relations, but defense relations have not been at the same level of intensity as bilateral relations," the French Defense Ministry said.

The publication also notes that French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu will visit Armenia for the first time on Thursday and Friday.

On Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron said during a joint statement with visiting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that France has given its consent to supply defense equipment.

In November 2023, the French and Armenian defense ministers signed a memorandum of understanding on future deliveries of French Mistral short-range air defense systems.

The Georgian service of Radio Liberty reported that APM Terminals Poti, the company that manages the port of Poti in Georgia, has confirmed the transit of French Bastion armored vehicles destined for Armenia. -0-
