Iranian Ambassador to Armenia: TRIPP project should not be used by external forces against Iran
YEREVAN, March 2. /ARKA/. The TRIPP (Trump Route) project, which could create new communication opportunities for Armenia, should under no circumstances become a tool in the hands of external forces against Iran, stated Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgolami.
"We have reaffirmed our support for the "Crossroads of Peace" project. The Armenian authorities have consistently assured us that under no circumstances will this route have a military purpose that could harm security, and that Armenia's sovereignty will be preserved during the program's implementation," Shirgolami noted at a press conference on Monday.
According to him, there are trusting relations between Iran and Armenia.
"A weakening or defeat of Iran would also harm Armenia." It's no secret that historically, several forces have had claims on Armenia, and these claims persist to a certain extent. Our desire is for Armenia to remain a strong state. Peace and security are beneficial to both countries. We support the maintenance of peace in the region," the diplomat said.
About the TRIPP Project
Following their January 13 meeting in Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a joint statement on the framework for implementing the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP).
The document envisages the launch of a mechanism for developing multimodal transit connectivity through Armenia, including connecting the mainland of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Region and integrating it into the Trans-Caspian Trade Route.
Armenia intends to sanction the creation of the TRIPP Development Company, which is expected to receive the initial right to implement the project for a period of 49 years.
It is planned to offer the United States a 74% stake in the company, while Armenia retains 26%. When the agreement is extended for another 50 years, the ratio of shares is expected to change.
