YEREVAN, October 16. /ARKA/. The head of Armenia’s National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan backtracked today on a statement he made earlier regarding the criminal case launched against ex-president Robert Kocharyan and the latter’s connection with the Congress Hotel in Yerevan.
Speaking to a news conference today Vanetsyan said his statement was "emotional" and not based on facts.
At an earlier press conference on September 11, Artur Vanetsyan promised to reveal a list of property owned by Robert Kocharyan. According to him, Kocharyan’s family acquired the Congress Hotel in Yerevan for a bribe of $6 million. Vanetsyan assured that he possessed necessary evidence.
“From the moment I took office, I only once spoke not based on facts. My statement on Kocharyan was ‘emotional ”that led to some developments. As a rule we present our revelations completely with all the facts so that there are no grounds for speculation, but at that moment we hurried: we had the facts, however, our investigation into that case was not complete yet," Vanetsyan said today. “From now on, I will speak only based on facts,” he pledged.
Earlier, Robert Kocharyan’s son Sedrak filed a lawsuit against Artur Vanetsyan, demanding compensation for defamation and public refutation of the statement. However, Kocharyna’s son did not indicate which ‘defamation’ statement he meant. --0--
