YEREVAN, April 2. /ARKA/. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian signed a decree today to dismiss Hakob Arshakyan as Minister of High Technology Industry.

By another decree, ex-governor of Tavush region Hayk Chobanyan was appointed to this position. Hayk Chobanyan was relieved of his post as governor of the Tavush region on Thursday. He held this post since February 6, 2019.

One of the reasons behind Arshakyan's dismissal is a brawl the minister had with a journalist in a downtown Yerevan cafe two weeks ago. CCTV footage showed the minister hitting the journalist in the face in the presence of other customers.

Later, the minister apologized to the public. “I am ready to bear the responsibility for the incident,” the minister said, but several journalistic organizations called for his resignation.

The minister was involved in another scandalous story when the Armenian pavilion at the international military exhibition in Abu Dhabi was left without exhibits, which failed to reach the UAE.

An internal investigation conducted by the ministry blamed it on two employees, who were reprimanded, one severely. -0-
