YEREVAN, November 3. /ARKA/. By decision of Armenian Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan, Hayk Babayan has been appointed as the commander of the Police Guard, according to the police website.

The day before, by decree of the president, Babayan was dismissed from his position as commander of the police forces.

Since November 1, the Police Guard has been operational within the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia. Its functions include ensuring public order and security, guarding state buildings and key facilities, escorting delegations in accordance with state protocol, and ensuring legal compliance during martial law and states of emergency. Police Guard personnel have undergone retraining and will be provided with new weapons.
