Half of Russian citizens know about Armenia genocide

More than half of Russian citizens are aware about the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and consider it extermination of an entire nation, according to the findings of a survey conducted by Russian Levada Polling Center.
YEREVAN, June 21. /ARKA/. More than half of Russian citizens are aware about the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and consider it extermination of an entire nation, according to the findings of a survey conducted by Russian Levada Polling Center.
The nationwide survey conducted in May 2016 embraced 800 respondents in 137 urban and rural communities in 48 regions aged 18 and older. The margin of error in these studies does not exceed 4.1% for 50% and higher figures.
The respondents were asked whether they thought that the Turks purposefully exterminated the Armenian nation in 1914-1923, or the stories about it are exaggerated. Some 50% of respondents said the 1914-1923 events was genocide. A previous survey conducted nine years ago found that only 37% of respondents held the same view.
According to the survey, 13% of Russians believe that stories about the Armenian genocide are much exaggerated, 22% did not hear anything about it. Nine years ago the number of such respondents was 33%, and 15% could not answer the question.
Also 69% of respondents described the extermination of Jews during WWII as extermination of an entire nation, 10% believe the stories about the Holocaust are exaggerated, 9% have not heard anything about it, and 12% were undecided. -0-
