France welcomes direct dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan
YEREVAN, July 20. /ARKA/. The French Foreign Ministry welcomed the meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Tbilisi, Georgia, on July 16.
Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov discussed a wide range of issues related to the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Baku at their meeting in Tbilisi on July 16. They touched also upon the implementation of previous commitments in this regard and exchanged views on possible next steps.
"France, determined to help achieve lasting peace in the South Caucasus, welcomes this meeting. France reiterates its support for the continuation of direct dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan in order for these countries to create favorable conditions for the normalization of their relations," the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
Earlier, the Mirzoyan-Bayramov meeting was welcomed by the U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price, who said that dialogue is the best way to achieve a peaceful, democratic and prosperous future for the South Caucasus, "and we will continue to support it in every way possible." -0-
