Four Armenian prisoners returned by Azerbaijan to Armenia
YEREVAN, January 14. /ARКА/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has announced that Azerbaijan has returned four Armenian captives to Armenia.
"Gevorg Sujyan, David Davtyan, Vigen Euljekchyan, and Vagif Khachatryan were recently transferred by representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan to their counterparts in the Republic of Armenia across the Hakkari Bridge and are now on the territory of the Republic of Armenia," Pashinyan stated in a Facebook post.
Pashinyan also mentioned that he would share further details later.
Azerbaijan officially acknowledged holding only 33 Armenian prisoners of war and civilians; however, Armenian human rights activists assert that there are an additional 80 Armenian detainees, including former Karabakh state minister Ruben Vardanyan, former presidents Bako Sahakyan, Arkady Ghukasyan, and Arayik Harutyunyan, former parliament speaker Davit Ishkhanyan, former Foreign Minister Davit Babayan, former Defense Army Commander Levon Mnatsakanyan, and former Deputy Commander of the Defense Army Davit Manukyan.
The ICRC concluded its mission in Azerbaijan on September 3, 2025, at the request of the Azerbaijani government. The organization has assured that it will continue to collaborate with the Azerbaijani authorities to provide assistance to individuals protected by international humanitarian law, in line with its mandate and Azerbaijan's obligations under the Geneva Conventions.-0-
