Former chief of Armenian army staff given new job
YEREVAN, March 9. /ARKA/. Artak Davtyan, a former top Armenian army general sacked last summer by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for breaching anti-epidemic rules, has been appointed by Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan as senior officer for special assignments, according to aysor.am, which cited sources at the Ministry of Defense.
Artak Davtyan, who was earlier appointed by Pashinyan as chief of general staff of Armenia's armed forces, was sacked because of hosting his son’s wedding party despite the state of emergency announced earlier last year to contain the spread of the virus.
According to mass media reports, the wedding was attended by about 100 guests in violation of social distancing rules set by the government.
On July 16, 2020, Nikol Pashinyan appointed Davtyan as head of the Military-Industrial Committee. On November Pashinyan dismissed him. -0-
