YEREVAN, June 28. /ARKA/. Armenia formally notified the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a Russian-led military bloc, that it will abstain from signing this year’s CSTO budget and provide any monetary contributions to the budget, the country’s Foreign Ministry told Factor.am on Thursday.
“Therefore, Armenia has no financial obligations [towards the CSTO],” the Foreign Ministry’s statement said.
Armenia announced it would “freeze” its membership in the bloc in February 2024 and refused to pay its membership fees. The country’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced on June 12 that leaving the bloc would be “the next logical step” for Armenia.
