For the sake of peaceful life in homeland: Pashinyan issues message on 35th anniversary of Karabakh movement

YEREVAN, February 20 . /ARKA/ 'Spontaneous, massive protests that started on February 20, 1988 in Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia 35 years ago will remain in Armenian history as a symbol of national awakening, unity and liberation struggle,' Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said today in a message issued on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Karabakh movement

'That movement was the first step towards restoring our statehood and regain our determination to live freely and independently, to create our own destiny and govern our own future," Pashinyan's message reads.

According to him, the goal of the Karabakh movement was to express the right and will of the people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to defend their rights and live a decent life in their land.

"After 35 years, the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh are facing serious problems. Even today, being under blockade, our compatriots are forced to express the will to protect their rights and security. As I have repeatedly said, these actions by Azerbaijan have one goal: to break the will of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to live in their homeland, which, however, I am sure, is unshakable and unwavering," Pashinyan noted.

"We will multiply our efforts to draw the attention of the international community to the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, as only unflagging activity of the international community can lead to curbing Azerbaijan's aggression and provocative actions, make it implement its obligations under the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020 and unblock the Lachin corridor," he said.

At the same time, Pashinyan pledged to continue consistent steps to resolve socio-economic problems of Artsakh Armenians, overcome security challenges and establish mechanisms to protect the rights and security of Artsakh Armenians. 'Realization of these goals requires tireless efforts and we must persevere in this endeavor,' Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan urged Artsakh Armenians to be strong and steadfast for the sake of peaceful, safe life and creation in the homeland.

"Faced with new global and regional challenges, we must focus our efforts on implementing a peaceful agenda, no matter how aware we are of the difficulties and problems awaiting us along this path. By and large, a peaceful, dignified and secure life has been the main goal of the Karabakh movement, and we must move toward that goal," the prime minister stressed. --0--
