EU technical assessment mission meets with Armenian Foreign Minister

YEREVAN, January 9. /ARKA/. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan received on Monday members of an EU technical assessment team. The group arrived in Yerevan to consider the possibility of deploying a new EU civilian mission along Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan, the Armenian Foreign Ministry's press service reported.

It said the sides touched upon the work of the EU civilian two-month long mission, which ended on December 19.

In this context, Mirzoyan praised the role of the civilian observation mission in strengthening regional stability and preventing new aggression against Armenia and expressed readiness to continue cooperation. Also, a number of issues of mutual interest were discussed. The meeting was attended by Andrea Wiktorin, head of EU Delegation to Armenia.

The EU monitoring group in Armenia (EUMCAP), launched in October, completed its mandate on December 19.

Based on an agreement between the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, the European Council and France, the EUMCAP was deployed along the Armenian side of the international border with Azerbaijan on October 20 to monitor, analyze and report on the situation on the ground.

For two months, the EU monitoring mission monitored the situation on the Armenian side of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border to build confidence and contribute to the work of the border delimitation commissions. --0--
