Deputy parliament speaker: political crisis in Armenia fully overcome
YEREVAN, January 28. /ARKA/. The political crisis in Armenia has been fully overcome, Hakob Arshakyan, deputy speaker of the National Assembly, said in an interview with Armenia's Public Television in comments on the authorities' achievements six months after the snap parliamentary elections in 2021 summer.
"Through the mechanism of fair elections we were able to overcome the political crisis and now we need to move forward, engaging all state institutions," he said.
In response to the host's remark that the opposition, on the contrary, says that the political crisis has become even worse, Arshakyan said the people have given the authorities a mandate of trust and legitimacy as a result of the parliamentary elections.
At the same time, Arshakyan described the opposition as irresponsible, saying that he cannot imagine opposition forces - parliamentary or non-parliamentary - not defending Armenia's foreign policy interests.
Speaking about the refusal of the opposition Hayastan (Armenia) alliance to join Armenian parliamentary delegations to attend international meetings and events, he said the latter are an opportunity for MPs to make Armenia’s voice heard on international platforms.
"This is an irresponsible attitude towards Armenia, its citizens, its future and statehood," he said.
Arshakyan also stressed that the opposition is trying to cast a shadow over the work of state institutions through its activities.
"We see that through groundless accusations against high-ranking officials they create tension, get a response and, in fact, demonstrate a lack of meaningful conversation," he said.
According to the results of Armenia's June 20, 2021 snap parliamentary elections, the ruling party Civil Contract won 71 seats, the opposition Hayastan alliance won 29 seats and another opposition alliance Pativ Unem ( I Have Honor) won 7 mandates. -0-
