Commission of the National Assembly of Armenia approved agreement with the IBRD on program of modernization of water supply for $185 million

Parliamentary Commission on Financial, Credit and Budget Issues approved the ratification of the credit agreement with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD, structure of the World Bank) on the program of improving water supply and irrigation services in Armenia - 1st stage in the amount of $185 million.
YEREVAN, February 27. /АРКА/. The RA Parliamentary Commission on Financial, Credit and Budget Issues approved the ratification of the credit agreement with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD, structure of the World Bank) on the program of improving water supply and irrigation services in Armenia - 1st stage in the amount of $185 million.
As Aramazd Galamkaryan, the chairman of the RA Water Committee, said, the program is aimed at modernization and improvement of irrigation, water supply and drainage of Armenia.

"The program will consist of four main components - reform of the water sector and institutional strengthening of climate-resistant irrigation and rural water supply and drainage systems, improvement of water supply and drainage in rural areas, modernization of irrigation infrastructure and system management, program management," Galamkaryan noted.
According to him, the program is multi-stage, the first stage is calculated for 5 years.
"$185 million is planned for the first stage, $250 million for the second," Galamkaryan said.
He stated that the sector still had no strategy or any strategic program, adding that significant funds were allocated as part of the infrastructure modernization program, but reservoirs were not included in the program, as part of the program - modernization and renewal of canals.
The program is co-financed by the French Development Agency (FAR) in the amount of 70 million. euro and the government of Armenia in the form of taxes, duties and other mandatory payments.
