YEREVAN, August 11. /ARKA/. Press secretary of the Armenian Prime Minister Nazeli Baghdasaryan denied rumors that Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan in Washington spoke out against the return of Armenian captives held in Baku.
“Absurd assumptions are being spread on the Internet that Prime Minister Pashinyan in Washington spoke out against the return of our compatriots imprisoned in Azerbaijan, or some of them,” Baghdasaryan wrote on her Facebook page.
According to her, the Prime Minister has repeatedly emphasized that Armenian representatives constantly raise this issue in their meetings in various formats and seek ways to resolve it.
“During the meeting with US President Donald Trump, this issue was raised precisely on the initiative of Prime Minister Pashinyan. Moreover, the Prime Minister spoke about the problem as a whole, not just in part,” Baghdasaryan noted.
At a meeting with Pashinyan at the White House, Trump promised to ask Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to release the Armenian prisoners.
Trump mentioned that 23 Christian Armenians are held captive in Baku and stressed that he would ask Aliyev to release them. “I think they will do it for me. It’s important, isn’t it?” he addressed Pashinyan.
