YEREVAN, January 20. /ARKA/. Narek Karapetyan, Vice President of Tashir Group and coordinator of the "Our Way" movement, warned of the risks of Armenia's withdrawal from the EAEU.

"Some 65-70% of Armenia's trade today is, in one way or another, with EAEU member countries. Only someone completely devoid of emotion toward their homeland could risk membership in this union. This will lead to the bankruptcy of hundreds of thousands of families engaged in agriculture and manufacturing," Karapetyan said, noting that Armenia's export volumes to Europe are insignificant.

According to him, a truly balanced sovereign economic policy requires having multiple trading partners.

"We need partners, particularly in the Middle East. True economic independence cannot be achieved through political statements," Karapetyan said.

According to Armstat, Armenia's trade turnover with the EAEU countries amounted to $7.05 billion in the first 11 months of 2025, a decline of 41.4%. The EAEU's share of Armenia's total trade turnover is 37.3%.

Meanwhile, over the same period, Armenia's trade turnover with the EU countries amounted to $2.23 billion, a growth of 5.7%. The EAEU's share of Armenia's total trade turnover is 11.8%.

Armenia's position on the EU and the EAEU

On March 26, 2025, the National Assembly of Armenia approved a draft law on the country's accession to the European Union. On April 4, the law was signed by the President of Armenia.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia is moving toward compliance with EU standards while maintaining membership in the EAEU and will combine these processes as long as possible. According to RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, deepening RA relations with the European Union is not intended to sever ties with Russia. He also stated that parallels with Armenia's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union should not be drawn.-0-
