Armenian, Turkish Foreign Ministers discuss normalization of relationsv
YEREVAN, June 26. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan spoke with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on the phone, the Armenian Ministry reported on Tuesday.
Mirzoyan and Fidan discussed issues of continued dialogue between the two countries as well as related to regional developments and touched upon the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, the Foreign Ministry of Armenia wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Armenia and Turkey do not have diplomatic relations. The land border between the two countries has been closed since 1993. In 2021, Yerevan and Ankara appointed Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Ruben Rubinyan and former Turkish ambassador to the US Serdar Kılıç as representatives to work towards normalization.
Later in 2022, the countries pledged to open the land border for the citizens of third countries, as well as to lift the ban on air freight operations. Unlike cargo flights, direct passenger flights have been operating between Yerevan and Istanbul since 1995.
