YEREVAN, May 14. /ARKA/. Armenia's Acting Minister of Defense Vagharshak Harutyunyan had a telephone conversation on Friday with Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Shoigu to discuss the situation in the Syunik region of Armenia.

According to official Armenian sources, Azerbaijani forces advanced 3.5 kilometers into Armenia’s Syunik province early on May 12 and also breached two other sections of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in Sisian and Vardenis on May 13.

Harutyunyan told his Russian counterpart about what the Armenian side has done in retaliation, noting also that all places, including the Sev Lich (Black Lake) area, where the Azerbaijanis have invaded, the entire area, military personnel and roads are under the full control of the Armenian army.

Harutyunyan stressed the importance of the need for a peaceful resolution of the situation, at the same time called any encroachment on the sovereign territory of Armenia unacceptable.

Harutyunyan and Shoigu also discussed a number of issues related to the Armenian-Russian military cooperation, the mission of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Artsakh and regional security. -0-
