Armenian National Congress demands postponement of parliamentary election polling date
YEREVAN, January 23. /ARKA/. The Armenian National Congress, a bloc of opposition parties, released a statement on Saturday proposing to postpone the date of the parliamentary elections that are scheduled for April 2.

In its statement, the congress says that the choice of this date as polling day triggered a just public outcry.

The thing is that the four-day April war broke out on this very day a year earlier, and the Armenian army resisted assaults from the opposite side by making heroic efforts and loosing 100 people.

On this day the nation will remember those killed in this war and the fallen heroes’ families will hold traditional memorial services.

“It has already been said that the polling day has been chosen in a clear breach of the constitutional provision,” the Armenian National Congress says in its statement. “The Armenian National Congress requires respect for the April war victims and postponement of the polling date to a period between April 21 and 30 in compliance with Article 68 of the Constitution…” --0---
