YEREVAN, March 22. /ARKA/. The Armenian government is unwilling to respond to threats faced by the people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), an opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan from Pativ Unem (I have honor) alliance said after a closed emergency discussion in parliament on the situation in Artsakh.

According to Abrahamyan, the biggest problem is not the failure of a vote on an opposition-drafted statement on the situation in Artsakh, but the failure of the government to work out a plan of actions to address the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, to alleviate or neutralize the problems of Artsakh people although the government acknowledges that there is crisis.

"We have now a situation in Artsakh with Azerbaijan trying to increase not only the pressure on Artsakh and Armenia, but also to cleanse Artsakh from Armenians by causing humanitarian crises and terrorist actions," he said.

Abrahamyan noted that no matter how the negotiations on a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan proceed, any Armenian government must understand that the security of Artsakh and ensuring the normal life of its Artsakh people is a primary goal.

Abrahamyan said that ensuring the security of Artsakh has a direct connection to Armenia's defense. He stressed that any process that targets Artsakh or makes it vulnerable directly affects Armenia and the lives and security of the people living in the country.

"Today's behavior, indifference, lack of commensurate response to the situation by the Armenian government, unfortunately, shows that the authorities not only do not take steps to respond urgently to the situation, but also have no desire to carry out serious measures to counter the threats," he said.

Natural gas supply to Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) has been cut off again on Marc h 21 evening. Natural gas supply to Nagorno-Karabakh from Armenia was first disrupted on March 8 due to damage to a pipeline passing through Azerbaijan-controlled territory near the town of Shushi.

The Artsakh government condemned 'Azerbaijan's humanitarian terrorism' in a statement, saying it grossly violates the human rights, the norms and principles of international humanitarian law and does not fit into the norms of morality in any way. -0-
