Armenian defense ministry slams Azerbaijan for spreading disinformation

YEREVAN, December 28. /ARKA/. Armenia's Ministry of Defense has accused today Azerbaijan of spreading disinformation. Azerbaijan’s defence ministry said earlier its army units were attacked by “an illegal Armenian armed group” in Nagorno-Karabakh, killing one Azerbaijani serviceman and wounding another.

“As we have already stated a few hours ago, the day before, throughout the day and up to the present moment, not a single unit of the Artsakh Defense Army, not a single serviceman took part in any operations, not a single emergency incident was registered, and not a single shot was fired from the Armenian side. Under these conditions, the statement of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry cannot be called anything other than a propaganda provocation,” the Armenian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The ministry noted that the Artsakh Defense Army continues to strictly observe the ceasefire regime.

The Armenian Defense Ministry issued the statement following reports by a number of Azerbaijani media outlets claming resumption of hostilities between the Armenian and Azerbaijani military near the village of Togh in Hadrut. The reports claimed there were casualties and wounded on both sides.

The Armenian Defense Ministry noted that the village of Togh is under the full control of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, and the Defense Army of Artsakh strictly observes the ceasefire regime, and not a single unit took part in any operations in that sector.

From September 27 to November 9,  Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire  front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and  phosphorus weapons.

On November 9, the leaders of the Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh. According to the document, the parties stopped at where they were at that time. The town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin were handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.

A Russian peacekeeping contingent has been deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. Internally displaced persons and refugees are returning to Karabakh and adjacent regions, prisoners of war, hostages and other detained persons and bodies of the dead are being exchanged.--0-
