Armenian defense minister slams Turkey’s ‘destructive’ policy in South Caucasus
YEREVAN, February 22. /ARKA/. Armenia’s defense minister Vigen Sargsyan slammed Turkey’s destructive policy saying it is aimed against the interests of the region.

In an interview with Russian RIA Novosti news agency Sargsyan said Turkey continues the blockade of Armenia and continues to deny the obvious - the fact of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, having also retreated from its own internationally accepted obligations to restore normal relations with Armenia, as reflected in protocols signed by Armenia and Turkey in 2010 in Zurich.

Sargsyan added that by its biased attitude towards the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh Turkey continues to effectively isolate itself from the regional processes

No diplomatic relations exist between Armenia and Turkey, with the Armenian-Turkish border being closed since 1993 by official Ankara. Official Yerevan stands ready to establish relations with Turkey without any preconditions, whereas Turkey requests Armenia to give up the policy of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide in 1915 when about one and a half million Armenians were slaughtered. Besides, Turkey has taken a pro-Azeri attitude in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. -0-
