Armenian Prime Minister explains why Key West Accords have not been published
YEREVAN, December 3. /ARКА/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan explained why the Key West Accords (on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, dating back to 2001 - ed.) have not been published on the government's website along with other documents on the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations.
"The Armenian government does not possess this document. Why is that? Because it was not a comprehensive negotiating document. It was a conspiracy. This is the reason behind the events of October 27 (the terrorist attack in the Armenian parliament in 1999- ed.) and the subsequent occurrences. If the Key West document had been beneficial, it should have been implemented rather than being discarded in favor of the Madrid Principles," Pashinyan stated during a government Q&A session in parliament.
He urged the opposition to locate and publish the Key West document, assuring that he would declassify it following the necessary verification.
The Prime Minister also addressed allegations regarding his inability to resolve the Karabakh conflict and to prevent the 44-day war in 2020, acknowledging his fear of being labeled a traitor.
"Indeed, I was afraid. Why should I not be? Given the responsibility I have taken for the country in its current condition, should I not feel fear? If I had been entirely unafraid, I would not have signed the trilateral agreement of November 9 (2020). I would not have discussed matters that others have chosen to remain silent about for years. I continue to fear making mistakes, and who does not? Only a fool would evade responsibility," Pashinyan remarked.
He reiterated his assertion that there exists a risk of Armenia losing its statehood due to the Karabakh issue.
The Key West Document represents a draft framework peace agreement for the Karabakh conflict, which was deliberated from April 3 to 7, 2001, during discussions in Key West, USA, facilitated by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and personally attended by US Secretary of State Colin Powell.-0-
