Armenia needs to diversify its security system - pro-government MP
YEREVAN, October 26. /ARKA/. Armenia needs to diversify its security system, MP from the ruling Civil Contract party Arusyak Julakyan said on Thursday.
"Given that our 'security cushion’ did not work and did not justify itself, there is a need to diversify it . It is necessary to find other components, either in the form of purchases of weapons, enhancing the EU monitoring mission, the ratification of Rome Statute, which provide for at least some security component, even if small," the MP said at a press briefing in the National Assembly,
When asked whether she means new military alliances and how Russia would l behave, because Armenia is a member of Moscow-led CSTO, Julakyan particularly noted: "Armenia doesn't need to form allied relations with anyone, as the partnership relations are enough". At the same time, she refrained from predicting the Kremlin's possible reaction.
Earlier this week in an interview with WSJ, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Azerbaijan's aggressive actions and the CSTO's inaction has prompted Armenia to diversify its security relations.
At the same time, he noted that official Yerevan does not discuss a possible withdrawal of the Russian military base from Armenia and tries to "understand the reasons for such behavior of the Russian Federation and the CSTO." -0-
