Armenia's visa liberalization process with EU is in active phase - Ministry
YEREVAN, August 22. /ARКА/. Armenian Interior Ministry has announced that efforts towards visa liberalization with the European Union (EU) are actively underway. Negotiations regarding visa liberalization commenced in September 2024, leading to the announcement of the operational phase of dialogue in December.
According to the Interior Ministry, EU expert missions conducted visits to Armenia from February 10-14 and April 7-11, 2025. During these visits, topics such as document security, border management, migration management, and asylum policy (1st mission) were addressed, followed by discussions on organized crime, corruption, financial crimes, cooperation among judicial and law enforcement agencies in criminal matters, including the safeguarding of personal data, foreign relations, and fundamental rights (2nd mission).
Subsequent to these missions, reports were compiled, which served as the foundation for the European Commission to formulate an Action Plan (which is to be executed and is not open for discussion). Furthermore, from June 10-12, 2025, agreements were established for an expert delegation to visit Armenia to facilitate the visa liberalization process, and on June 24, a delegation from the Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission visited the country.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs highlighted that the Action Plan, as summarized by the European Commission, is presently undergoing coordination with EU member states and is expected to be officially presented to Armenia in the fall of 2025.
"Armenia perceives the Visa Liberalization Action Plan as a strategic foundation for its reforms in migration mobility and public security. Armenia is dedicated to executing these reforms to guarantee dignified and unobstructed travel for its citizens to the European Union," concluded the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs.-0-
