YEREVAN, March 12. /ARKA/. The new Constitution of Armenia should not reference the Declaration of Independence, stated Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

"Because the Declaration of Independence is built on the logic of conflict. We cannot strive to build an independent state within this logic," Pashinyan stated at a briefing on Thursday.

The Declaration of Independence references the December 1, 1989 Resolution of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR and the National Council of Nagorno-Karabakh "On the Reunification of the Armenian SSR and Nagorno-Karabakh."

On the Constitution

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan thinks that the adoption of a new Constitution by the free expression of the people's will is extremely important in terms of the state's stability and security agenda.

He has repeatedly emphasized that the Armenian Constitution makes no territorial claims against Azerbaijan or any other country, but the Azerbaijani Constitution does contain territorial claims against Armenia.

Azerbaijan is demanding amendments to the Armenian Constitution as a precondition for signing a peace treaty.
