Armenia views settlement of relations with Azerbaijan and normalization of relations with Turkey as separate processes
YEREVAN, September 16. /ARKA/. The Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement and the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations are separate processes, said the Special Representative for Armenian-Turkish Normalization, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ruben Rubinyan.
“However, this does not mean that they (these processes) do not have a mutual influence on each other. It is obvious that all these countries are in the same region and can influence each other,” Rubinyan noted in an interview with the Public Television of Armenia.
According to him, Yerevan is confident that progress in the process of normalizing relations with Turkey will definitely and undoubtedly have a positive impact on the process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The Vice Speaker emphasized that Armenia also has no doubt that the enormous progress in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which was recorded on August 8 in Washington, will also have a positive impact on the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, and his recent meeting with Turkish envoy Serdar Kilic became the key to all this.
The other day, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that Azerbaijan and Armenia are expected to sign a peace treaty in the first half of 2026. According to him, as soon as the final agreement is signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Turkey "will quickly normalize relations with Armenia."
On September 12, Special Representatives of Armenia and Turkey Rubinyan and Kilic held their 6th meeting in Yerevan, confirming the previously agreed intentions to advance the process of full normalization of relations between the countries.
They agreed to accelerate the implementation of the agreement on crossing the land border by third-country nationals and persons with diplomatic passports, reached at the meeting on July 1, 2022, to conduct the necessary technical studies for the restoration and operation of the Gyumri-Kars railway and power line, and to increase the number of flights between the two countries.-0-
