Armenia and the UK reach agreement to elevate their relations to strategic partnership

YEREVAN, August 26. /ARКА/. Armenia and the UK have agreed to enhance their relationship to a strategic partnership. This development was highlighted during the second round of the Strategic Dialogue between the two nations, which took place in Yerevan, led by Armenia's Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan and the UK's Secretary of State for Europe, North America and the Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty, as reported by the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

Building on the initial meeting of the Strategic Dialogue that occurred in London in 2023, both parties evaluated the progress made and emphasized the significance of maintaining regular high-level interactions to further fortify and broaden the bilateral partnership between Armenia and the United Kingdom.

The parties reiterated their strong dedication to upholding democracy, the rule of law, and fundamental human rights at both regional and global levels, grounded in shared values, international law, democratic principles, and adherence to a rules-based international order.

The Armenian delegation shared insights regarding the ongoing democratic reforms in the country, which include initiatives to bolster democracy, enhance the rule of law, safeguard human rights, and implement measures to combat corruption.

The UK acknowledged Armenia's advancements and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the continuation of these reforms. The discussions also covered the expansion of cooperation in the security and defense sectors, including future high-level engagements, the exchange of defense attachés, and closer collaboration in cyber security and addressing hybrid threats. -0-
