YEREVAN, February 28. /АРКА/. The Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia Armen Simonyan received the Russian delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Dmitry Zverev.

During the meeting, issues related to the restoration and construction of the railway infrastructure in the directions "Gyumri-Ahurik-border of Turkey" and "Yeraskh-border of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan" were discussed, reports the press service of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.

The interlocutors also reviewed the current level of cooperation in the spheres of automobile transport and air transportation. As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue the discussions.

About the restoration of railway sections

In December 2025, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asked his Russian colleagues to urgently reconstruct sections of the railway from Yeraskh (south-west Armenia) to the border of Nakhichevan (Azerbaijan), from Ijevan (east Armenia) to Gazakh (west Azerbaijan) and from Akhurik (west Armenia) to the border of Turkey.

On February 12, 2026, Russian Vice-Premier Alexey Overchuk announced that Russia and Armenia will assess the technical and financial conditions for the restoration of two railway sections for their subsequent connection with the railways of Azerbaijan in the area of the Armenian village of Yeraskh, as well as with the railways of Turkey in the area of the settlement of Akhuryan in Armenia.

On the next day, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, David Khudatyan, stated that a certain understanding was reached with the Russian side on the issue of the restoration of the railway sections in the Yeraskhaand Akhurika regions. According to him, if there are obstacles in the line of repair work on the part of the Russian Federation, the Armenian government will independently restore the railway on these sections.
