Armenia and Iran Discuss Launch of "Simplified Customs Corridor" on Border

The project to implement a "Simplified Customs Corridor" on the Armenian-Iranian border was discussed yesterday by Eduard Hakobyan, Head of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia, with a delegation led by Foroud Asgari, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Iran and Head of Customs.

YEREVAN, November 19. /ARKA/. The project to implement a "Simplified Customs Corridor" on the Armenian-Iranian border was discussed yesterday by Eduard Hakobyan, Head of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia, with a delegation led by Foroud Asgari, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Iran and Head of Customs.

According to the SRC press service, the project is a concept for creating more favorable conditions for the foreign economic activity of law-abiding economic entities.

The parties confirmed their readiness to take all necessary steps to implement the project and also addressed the issue of mutual recognition of authorized economic operators, agreeing to begin active negotiations in this direction.

During the meeting, issues of bilateral cooperation on simplification of cross-border trade flows and control operations between the two countries were also discussed. Specifically, the steps necessary to launch a system for exchanging preliminary electronic data between the customs services of the two countries were discussed, and relevant agreements were reached.

The head of the State Revenue Committee reported a significant increase in trade between Armenia and Iran, while the Iranian representative emphasized the importance of the Norduz-Agarak checkpoint and efforts to simplify the movement of goods and transport.

According to the Armstat, trade turnover between Armenia and Iran for the first nine months of 2025 amounted to $555.4 million, an increase of 6.7% compared to the same period of 2024.
