An Armenian prosecutor supervising a criminal case against a citizen, who is accused of attempting to kill former speaker of Armenian National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan. (he now serves as Foreign  Minister) referred it to a court in Yerevan.

YEREVAN, July 10. /ARKA/. An Armenian prosecutor supervising a criminal case against a citizen, who is accused of attempting to kill former speaker of Armenian National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan. (he now serves as Foreign Minister) referred it to a court in Yerevan.

According to the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office, a 27-year-old resident of Yerevan, identified by his initials T.A., was involved in mass disorders, which took place near the buildings of the Government and the National Assembly late on November 9, 2020 shortly after the announcement of a Russian-brokered ceasefire agreement with Azerbaijan that ended the war in Nagorno-Karabakh requiring significant concessions from Armenia.

According to the investigation, T.A. joined a group of anti-government protesters who stormed the government and parliament buildings in Yerevan, and who attacked Mirzoyan. T.A. hit and kicked Mirzoyan, who was in a helpless and unconscious state, several times. T.A. was stopped by security officers and bystanders.

As a result of the attack Mirzoyan received numerous bodily injuries and was taken in an unconscious state to Erebuni Medical Center, where the doctors managed to save his life.

On June 15, 2023, T. A. was charged with committing a crime under Article 34-305 of the Criminal Code (attempted murder of a state, political figure). He was arrested. On June 30, 2023 the indictment was approved by the prosecutor and together with the case files was sent to a first instant criminal court in Yerevan.--0—
