Another Armenian army officer arrested on charges of treason (video)
YEREVAN, July 11. /ARKA/. An Armenian army officer was arrested on charges of treason, the National Security Service (NSS) said today.
It said the officer who was in possession of secret information, got acquainted with a foreign intelligence service officer via Odnoklassniki social network and was recruited by the latter.
After that by means of correspondence he passed military information about his military unit, its location and equipment of combat positions and other secret information to the foreign intelligence officer.
He also gave the foreign intelligence service officer personal and official data of the command staff of the military unit, took and sent them the photos of the buildings of the military unit, battle positions, the fire map of the combat position, the military ID card. Thus he committed treason by means of espionage to the detriment of territorial integrity and security of Armenia and was rewarded by money sent as bank transfers.
The officer was detained and confessed during the investigation, after which he was charged by the prosecutor based on the evidence of the crime. An arrest was imposed against him as a preventive measure.
A person suspected or accused of an alleged offence is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court ruling, which has entered into legal force, under the procedure prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia. -0-
