Ambassador calls 2023 ambiguous for Armenian-Russian relations

YEREVAN, December 29. /ARKA/. In an interview with the Public Television of Armenia, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin said the passing year was ambiguous for Armenian-Russian relations, noting that there were also positive developments.

"It is extremely important that we maintain a positive outlook based on the strong and deep foundation of our relations," he said.

Noting that 2023 was a challenging year for Russian-Armenian relations, the ambassador said this reflects the difficult situation the region and the world are in today, adding that these rather serious, fundamental changes in the world order could not but affect the two countries and peoples.

"If we try to compare what is happening in our relations now with what happened in previous years, in a sense it should be taken with an appropriate degree of understanding," he said.

At the same time, according to Kopyrkin, "when it comes to complex relations, to misunderstandings, I proceed from the fact that it is necessary to separate things, that is, to understand what is happening in the current situation [...], what is the core of our relations, what is key in our relations - human communication, commonality of cultures, religions, very deep traditions of interaction, mutual understanding. Very many episodes unite us historically. I am sure that there are common features both from the strategic point of view and from the point of view that we participate in some integration associations. For all possible difficulties, there are fundamental approaches and factors that are generally a good basis for our relations," the diplomat emphasized. -0-
