About 5.8 billion drams will be allocated for the organization of the COP-17 Conference in Yerevan
YEREVAN, September 11. /ARКА/. Approximately 5.8 billion drams will be allocated to facilitate holding of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biodiversity COP-17 in Yerevan, through the reallocation of the Armenian state budget for 2025, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Environment.
The allocated funds will be utilized for the renovation, construction, and enhancement of the areas within the Meridian Expo Center, the venue for the conference.
Armenia was chosen as the host nation for the 17th Conference of the Parties on October 31, 2024, during the 16th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity held in Colombia.
COP-17 is scheduled to take place in Yerevan from October 18 to 30, 2026.
The UN Convention on Biological Diversity is one of three principal international environmental agreements designed to regulate the global community's efforts to ensure environmental sustainability, safeguard biological diversity, restore ecosystems, and utilize natural resources in a sustainable manner.
The Conferences of the Parties to the Convention represent some of the largest global environmental gatherings, occurring biennially, during which participating nations formulate mechanisms for implementing the Convention's provisions and adopt new commitments to enhance the protection of natural resources.
Civil society representatives, including those from non-governmental organizations, indigenous communities, the scientific community, women's and youth organizations, as well as the private sector, actively engage in the Conferences' proceedings. ($1 - 382.49 drams).-0-
