YEREVAN, June 4. /ARKA/. On June 3, 1 laboratory-confirmed case of West Nile fever was registered in Armenia, the press service of the Ministry of Health reported.

West Nile fever is a transmissible viral disease, the carriers of which are mainly mosquitoes.

The infection is not transmitted from person to person. It has a clearly defined seasonality from June to October, which is due to favorable conditions for the reproduction and spread of mosquitoes.

Approximately 80% of infected people do not show symptoms of the disease. Clinical symptoms include headache, myalgia, rash, joint pain, dizziness, and in severe cases, meningitis, encephalitis, as well as signs of damage to the central or peripheral nervous system.

Specialists from the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention continue to conduct entomological surveys among carriers. -0-
