Magnitude 4.7 earthquake hits Armenia
YEREVAN, February 13, /ARKA/. An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred at 15:29 local time 10 km southeast of Yerevan, Armenia, the Armenian Seismic Protection Service reported.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit at a very shallow depth of 0 km beneath the epicenter near Yerevan, Armenia, early afternoon on Saturday 13 February 2021 at 3:29 pm local time.
Armenia's Seismic Protection Service said the quake was recorded 10 km south-east of Yerevan, at the depth of 10 km with 4.7 magnitude. The magnitude of the earthquake in the epicenter was 6-7.
The earthquake was felt in Yerevan with a magnitude of 5-6, in the regions of Aragatsotn, Ararat, Shirak, Armavir, Vayots Dzor with a magnitude of 3-4.
EMSC service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage. Weak shaking might have been felt in Gyumri (pop. 148,400) located 97 km from the epicenter. -0-
